U2-related snippet Oasis kick out U2
Noel Gallagher has claimed that the band kicked out Bono and co from Abbey Road Studios so they could record their new album there.
Discovering the studio had been booked in December, he revealed to Mojo: "We actually went down to Abbey Road with a bag of money, and said, 'We can pay for the studio now'."
Oasis's new studio album 'Dig Out Your Soul' is released on October 6th. |

Universal Music registers www.nolineonthehorizon.com as possible U2 album name. The domain name www.nolineonthehorizon has been registered by Universal Music. Speculation is gathering momentum that the domain name could be either the title of the new U2 album or the name of the first single. James Cooke of digicc normally is responsible for such domain registrations. Nonetheless, the name ‘No Line On The Horizon’ was alluded to by Bono as a possible song title in an interview on USA Today in 2007. http://u2ol.net/ |

I'm going to have a heart attack and die of not surprise. We see what we want to see. Also, don't forget that reality has a liberal bias. From this morning's NY Times:
"When we saw women starting to drop out in the early part of this decade, we thought it was the motherhood movement, women staying home to raise their kids. We did not think it was the economy, but when we looked into it, we realized that it was." -- Heather Boushey, a senior economist at the Joint Economic Committee of Congress. |

Oho the pot Phil Dick's widow Tessa B. Dick is being forced to sell Oho, the little laughing pot (right, linked). Oho is virtually a relic, mentioned in a number of Phil's books, including VALIS and Deus Irae (and possibly in Galactic Pot Healer as well -- damn, it's my favourite Dick as well, and I can't remember off-hand). Tessa is in very dire financial straits, her home may be foreclosed and she is walking everywhere as she cannot afford to get her car fixed. I wish I could afford to buy Oho myself. I've been a "Dickhead" since my boyhood, and would dearly love a memento from one of my most important influences. However, if you're like me, you may not have the money to buy a genuine Dick relic (and help out Phil's last great love), but maybe you can afford to buy one of Tessa's books? She has two in print: The Dim Reflection of Philip K. Dick, which is a short memoir (and a steal at $6.25) and a novel, Origins, Part One: Thor's Hammer. I'll be picking up one. She is also working on The Owl in Daylight is Blind, "the owl in daylight as philip k. dick would have written it": here's hoping she has great success with that book. (Thanks to Total Dick-Head for bringing this to my attention. This entry is reposted from my own journal.) |

Let's see. Greg came to visit this weekend. It was rather wonderful to have him around, though it was a short visit -- he got in around 9 pm Friday, and left early Sunday afternoon. Still, we had quality Jaime and Greg time.
In other news, Jenni and Matt are engaged (at the Billy Joel concert at Shea last weekend, even!)
I moved my computer up to the kitchen desk today. I've had quite enough of hiding away in the basement all day. Much more productive in the light.
I've been trying to get a hold of Chris, to see if he knows when his roommate is moving out, but he hasn't picked up. Oh well. Maybe he's off int he woods or something. |

Five Things You May Not Know About The U2 Remasters 1. The Japanese deluxe version of Boy has two tracks not seen on any of the other editions, 'Bad Weed Blues' and 'Side Split'. 2. Delivery on the Amazon exclusive boxset has been delayed until August 8. (I'm sure my credit card will be grateful for the reprieve.) However, Zavvi in the UK have a very similar deal, same box but without the poster. 3. The HMV bonus t-shirt for War is clearly the result of playing with Wordle. 4. Following in U2's fine tradition of proof-reading and quality control, the October HMV pack says it contains the War t-shirt (it doesn't). 5. Live at Red Rocks and UABRS are allegedly coming out September 30 (see above re credit card relief). I hear the deluxe Red Rocks will be a dvd and cd set. Current Mood: acquisitive |

just a curiosity. Besides Sunday Bloody Sunday and Peace on Earth, is any other U2 song written directly about/in response to the Troubles?

"if you listen to the outro of I Will Follow, you'll hear me playing bicycle spokes with a knife..." There's a very nice interview (and archival video!) with Steve Lillywhite talking about the original recordings of Boy, October and War over here at the BBC. |

We all live in high castles. Hello, longtime PKD fan but just recently discovered this community. I just finished The Man in the High Castle, and am still pretty much in awe of it.
Confused. But great, great book. I look forward to watching this community! |
